My Impressions

The Summer Institute I attended left deep impressions on me not only because it addressed most urgent problems of learner acquisition, teaching techniques and modern computer technologies but also because it combined intense class work with field trips and open-air picnics. I was amazed at the wealth of technological resources available for language instructors, which were described in detail by Prof. J. Noblitt, Prof. R. Greenberg and Mr. D. Swanwick. I was impressed by a new type of computerized grammar manual demonstrated by Prof. L. Janda and Dr. Clancy. Moreover, we were practically taught how to open and work with our own web page in the workshop conducted by Prof. G. Mitrevski. We learned a lot about teaching Russian at Duke from Prof. E. Andrews, about the ways to teach specialized scholastic and modern newly coined vocabularies from Prof. E. Maksimova and Prof. E. Magomedova.

Intense as the program of the Institute is, it would be nice if the organizers find some time for experience sharing, so that the participants can acquaint each other with teaching practices at their schools.
